6 Simple Don’ts about Blogging for Business

May 10, 2012

DON’T copy and paste content

CTRL+C and CTRL+V is a shortcut people use everyday without thinking twice. Think twice when copying and pasting content from another site without providing proper citations.

DON’T copy and paste images

There are plenty of stock photography sites that are affordable, even free. There is no need to steal an image and post it on your business blog. Try http://www.istockphoto.com/ for some great free options. Or my favorite is the easy to use plugin for wordpress called “Photo Dropper.”

DON’T have music play automatically

Having a music player with functions lets the reader make the decision to listen or not.

DON’T use the image of a person with a headset

Chances are that is not one of your employees especially wearing a dorky headset. Use a “call us” button instead which adds functionality.

DON’T clutter your business blog pages

A side bar is extra space containing widgets. Too many widgets can be distracting, stick to 7 widgets at the most.

DON’T ignore comments

If a customer asks a question, be responsive. It shows you care! Plus, it is a great way to create engagement. Test out a comment plugin for your blog….we like DISQUS.
