Project Scope
Drio partnered with The Calico Cat Café to design and develop a new semi-custom website that introduces the café as more than a place to grab coffee. Operated by Friends of Larchmont, Inc., The Calico Cat Café was created with a larger community-centered vision: to transform a vacant property into a welcoming café and gathering space for Woodlawn Village and the surrounding community.
The goal of the website was to clearly communicate the heart behind the project while creating a warm, approachable digital presence that reflects the café’s mission, personality, and future impact. The site needed to explain the nonprofit structure, introduce the vision for the space, and help visitors understand how The Calico Cat Café will serve as a place for connection, conversation, events, local partnerships, and community building.
Using Drio’s semi-custom website approach, the final site was designed to feel inviting, easy to navigate, and full of possibility, while still being built on a strong, efficient foundation. Through thoughtful design, clear messaging, and organized content, the site helps tell the story of a community-driven project rooted in hospitality, local pride, and meaningful connection.
Challenges and Solutions
A key challenge was creating a website for a café concept that was still growing into its full physical presence. The site needed to build excitement and credibility while clearly explaining the vision behind the project before the café became a fully established destination.
We addressed this by focusing the website around the “why” behind The Calico Cat Café. Rather than presenting it only as a food and beverage business, the site highlights its role as a nonprofit-led community gathering space operated by Friends of Larchmont, Inc. This helped position the café as both a future neighborhood destination and a meaningful investment in the community.
Another important priority was balancing charm with clarity. The website needed to feel warm, playful, and welcoming while still providing clear information about the organization, the project, and opportunities for community engagement. We created a structure that makes it easy for visitors to learn about the café’s mission, explore the vision for the space, and understand how it will support gatherings, events, workshops, local talent, flexible workspace, and small business partnerships.
Because this was a semi-custom project, Drio was able to use a proven website structure as the foundation while tailoring the design, content flow, and visual presentation to match The Calico Cat Café’s personality and goals. This approach helped create a polished, mission-aligned website efficiently, without sacrificing warmth, usability, or storytelling.
The project also required the site to serve multiple audiences, including neighbors, donors, partners, local leaders, and future visitors. To support this, we focused on simple navigation, clear calls to action, and content sections that help each audience quickly understand the value and purpose of the project.
Summary
The Calico Cat Café website created a welcoming digital foundation for a nonprofit-led project with deep community roots.
Operated by Friends of Larchmont, Inc., The Calico Cat Café represents a larger vision for Woodlawn Village: transforming a vacant property into a vibrant gathering space where residents can connect, attend events, support local talent, enjoy family-friendly food and beverages, and strengthen community relationships.
Through Drio’s semi-custom website approach, we were able to bring that vision to life online with a site that feels personal, polished, and easy to navigate. The result is an inviting, mission-aligned website that introduces The Calico Cat Café, communicates its community impact, and gives the organization a flexible platform to build awareness, attract support, and share its progress as the project continues to grow.
