When’s the best time to blog?

May 15, 2012

As you have learned already from our other posts, maintaining a blog is a full time job that requires a lot of time and commitment.  Now that we have convinced you and your business to blog regularly you might be wondering when is the best time of day to post your blogs?

Timing is Everything

I am sure by now that you have heard the phrase “timing is everything.”  Well the same concept applies to blogging.  Research suggests publishing early in the morning is the best time to post.  Having said that,  it’s our belief that like everything else in life you need to see what works for you.  There is no right or wrong answer.  Try posting at different times during the day and see when you get the most engagement from your audience.  You’ll surely find that when blogging for your business times may vary based on your readers!

Scheduling blog posts for your business

Scheduled post publishing is a great feature that’s available on many host sites. This feature allows you to schedule posts to run during different times and on different dates.  It’s easy to do to! You just need to go to your options toggle and then type a post date and time that’s in the future.  Or, we love the plugin called “WordPress Editorial Calendar”.  In fact, if you check out our Drio Facebook Page, you’ll see that the cover photo (from May 2012) is our Editorial Calendar.

Have you experimented with post timing? Our team has! We like to switch it up and post at different times of the day. We have found that in some instances we get a lot of engagement posting after 5 pm.  It’s no surprise that as soon as folks are leaving work that they are checking in and engaging in facebook posts/blogs/tweets etc. On the other hand, we have also had good engagement early in the morning as folks get ready for their day and check into their favorite sites. So here again, you need to try posting at different times during the day to see what works for you.

Become a blogging for business machine!

At the end of the day timing is only a small piece of the puzzle.  So rather than focusing on the perfect day or time we believe it’s more important to publish content multiple times per day on as many days of the week as this can lead to a huge increase in your blog’s success. You want your followers to be checking in and seeing what you have to say. In the end, this will turn readers into followers. Reaching beyond your own connections!  That’s what it’s all about.
